Buzz about Fête of Fashion

DC media buzzed about the February 27, 2010 Fête of Fashion, a swanky fundraiser for Capital Breast Care Center. The Fete was hosted by Fashion Fix, a group of young women in the District who use their passion for fashion to help others. The event, held at boutique Rue 14, included shopping and a silent auction for the benefit of Capital Breast Care Center.

Capital Breast Care Center Participates in Kaiser Family Foundation Panel on Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Women's Health

On Wednesday, June 10th, the Kaiser Family Foundation hosted a briefing, “Putting Women’s Health Disparities on the Map: Examining Racial and Ethnic Disparities at the State Level,” to present the findings of a new study that documents the extent of health disparities at the state level among women of different racial and ethnic groups. The presentation of the findings was followed by a panel discussion with experts on women's health and health disparities to discuss how policies can be shaped to eliminate these disparities.

Report co-authors Alina Salganicoff and Cara James, both of the Kaiser Family Foundation, introduced the report and presented the key findings, respectively. The briefing also included a respondent panel moderated by Kaiser's Jackie Judd. The respondents included Carolyn Clancy, Director, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality; Peter Koutoujian, State Representative, Massachusetts; Cynthia Lindquist Mala, President, Cankdeska Cikana (Little Hoop) Community College of Fort Totten, N.D.; and Beth Beck, Executive Director, Capital Breast Care Center. Marsha Lillie-Blanton, report co-author and Senior Advisor to the Kaiser Family Foundation, provided closing remarks.

Capital Breast Cancer Receives $750,000 from Avon Foundation

Washington, DC, May 3 2009 — Capital Breast Care Center, the only community-centered licensed and accredited mammography facility in Washington, DC, received $750,000 to support Avon's signature patient care program in the District of Columbia.  Capital Breast Care Center provides critical safety-net services to medically underserved and uninsured women in the Washington, DC, area, and serves more than 2,400 women per year.
