Programs
One by One was a community-based program to improve knowledge about the importance of regular and routine breast cancer screening, remove barriers to accessing regular breast cancer screening, and increase physician recommendations for breast cancer screening for low-income women. The goal of this program was to increase early detection and decrease breast cancer mortality one resident at a time. This two-year program targeted uninsured and underinsured residents of public housing properties. Funded for 2007-2008 by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Capital Breast Care Center implemented One by One in collaboration with the District of Columbia Housing Authority.
The Bring Someone you Love campaign aims to increase patient referrals, introduce the Capital Breast Care Center transportation service, and promote the Center's services in the DC metropolitan area. This campaign, which was launched along with the van service, is expected to raise awareness of Capital Breast Care Center and its services. The campaign is promoted through outreach, our community-based partners, and media outlets.
National Women’s Health Week. CBCC joined the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women's Health in celebrating National Women's Health Week (May 10–16, 2009). The theme for National Women's Health Week 2009 was "It's Your Time." During the week, families, health organizations, businesses, communities, the government, and individuals came together to raise awareness about women's health issues and educate women about simple steps they can take toward longer, healthier, and happier lives. Capital Breast Care Center hosted a month-long series of events during May to promote women’s health and wellness.
